"We may not always understand where we are going,
or what's being
worked out in us,
but we can trust that something good is happening"
- Melody Beattie
Almost always I believe this. Whenever I doubt, I think of my mom near the end of her life.
During her last weeks here on earth, my mom often said, "Oh," and, "I see."
I never learned exactly what my mom saw, but I saw her peace-filled response to it. I got the impression that she was seeing scenes from her life within a new context, one that showed her meanings, life lessons, and values within previous conflicts, confusions, and hurtful situations.
Several times, while moving her hands as if she were putting together an invisible puzzle, my mom said, "Everything is falling
into place, Charlene."
Looking back, it seems to me that
before the sacrament of Last Rites was administered, my mom was already receiving a kind of Last Rights - a Righting - upon her life.
The memory of that always strengthens my resolve to trust in what is unfolding in all our lives.
With faith, love, and hope,
Charlene
