“We don’t even know how strong we are until we are forced to bring that hidden strength forward.”
—Isabel Allende.
How powerful it is when we realize that we have greater strength than we previously thought or even imagined.
But, when do we begin to know that we are strong at all?
Before diving into the fullness of strength and the strength beyond our strength, let's appreciate our earliest experiences of
strength.
Can you recall a time in childhood when you recognized strength outside of you? How about when you felt a glimmer of it within you?
I saw something I admired in my grandparents when they told me stories about leaving the "Old Country" and coming to the "New Country." Since I was only 3 or 4, I didn't associate it with the word "strength," but I think what I saw in them resonated with the strength that was, and is, inherently in me.
Strength is inherently in all of us. It's in the foundation of our being. An aspect of life itself, strength helps us to survive and thrive. Each of us has been using strength in many ways since we took our first
breath.
Besides looking for memories of our earliest experiences of strength, let's notice ways we use strength today.
With love,
