"Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you’re climbing it." - Andy Rooney
I don't know about living on one - I prefer to live by the sea - but I do love climbing and standing on top of hills and mountains. How about
you?
Today's quote brings to mind "Climb Every Mountain," from the Sound of Music.
I love the song and the scene in which it is sung, when the Mother Superior encourages the young postulant, Maria, to follow her heart after finding the dream in
her heart.
Andy Rooney says growth doesn't happen at the top of the mountain but in the climb up. What about when we haven't yet found the dream in our heart and we don't know
which mountain to climb?
When that happens, let's first be kind and compassionate toward ourselves and not judge ourselves harshly. Then, let's hold in our hearts, like a mustard seed in
our hand, faith that we are being guided.
Let's also hold patience for the waiting and hope that something wonderful is unfolding while we wait. There is growth in all this too.
If you know the song and the scene in the film, you may wish to hold Mother Superior's singing in your mind and heart. Or, perhaps, you'll sing the
song.
"Climb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every byway, til you find your dream" goes the refrain.
With love, hope, faith, and courage,
Charlene
