We all, at times, know grief in our personal lives, and, at times, we share in widespread grief caused by common hurts and losses.
The grief I'm experiencing now is the widespread kind. With millions of others,
I'm hit with waves of shock and sadness every time I see a photo of the devastation caused by Ian as well as when I picture my beloved Sanibel in its former state.
Comparing grief with the ocean - I wonder about this - considering it was the sea - along with wind and rain - that caused the damage to Sanibel and to multitudes of other islands, cities, villages, marinas, harbors, and houses in Ian's path.
And yet the sea is often healing and the comparison is
apt.
So, for all grief, guided by wisdom, may we know when to simply let go and float on top of the grief, when to
paddle to keep our chin above water and the body of grief, and when to stroke our way through, processing grief with love and compassion.
During all hurts, may we keep our hearts open.
With love and hope,
Charlene
