"Wabi-sabi suggests that beauty is a dynamic event that occurs between you and something else. Beauty is thus an altered state of consciousness, an extraordinary
moment of poetry and grace." - Leonard Koren
Wabi-sabi is a philosophy that respects what is old and worn. It embraces authenticity over shiny perfection.
Wabi-sabi beauty is a way of seeing things from a point of view that appreciates authenticity.
I recognized how easy it is to see beauty in a wabi-sabi way when visiting
ancient ruins, such as the Roman Colosseum and the Greek Parthenon and in places that have a patina of age, such as this village of Danilia, on the island of Corfu.
We see beauty in old architectural structures - and in old trees, too - so when will we become wise and loving
enough to see beauty in our elders, in ourselves as we age?
Imagine honestly seeing the beauty in not only the wisdom of elders but in the physical changes in their faces and bodies.
May seeing in wabi-sabi ways be something we grow to appreciate more and more.
With love, compassion, and wisdom,
Charlene

May your deeds reflect its depth.
