"There are no greater treasures than the highest human qualities such as compassion, courage, and hope."
- Daisaku Ikeda
Dear Friends,
I am missing being in closer touch with you. But I will be, fairly soon.
We just left the Canary Islands and have begun crossing the Atlantic. I have so many photos and inspirations to share when I arrive home.
Here is one.
This photo taken in Lanzarote doesn't depict a beautiful scene but I was moved by what the side-by-side monuments seems to say. For me, the
headless busts bring attention, not to our thoughts, diverse opinions, and beliefs, but to what is happening in our chests, in our hearts. The smaller one, with arms tightly crossed, represents a closed heart. The larger one, with arms outstretched in a plea or a prayer, or both, conveys deep emotion.
What is that emotion, do you suppose?
What is the plea? The prayer?
The sun shining upon it from behind seems to me like an urging for us all.
We
must feel. We must care.
With love,
Charlene
PS - I am writing this on Veteran's Day. May we honor all who have served and are serving.
And may we each cultivate a spirit of service toward one another and within all our tasks, responsibilities, and activities. May we discover the joy that comes with genuine loving service. And
may we each, in our own way, using our gifts and talents, move us closer to peace and justice for all and to reverence for all creation.
