"Fix your thoughts on what is true,
and honorable and right,
and pure and lovely and admirable.
Think about things that are excellent
and worthy of praise."
- Philippians 4:8
Dear friends and family,
This quote has been one of my favorites since my teen years.
As you may know, there are many versions of it but only with subtle differences.
I'm sending another version of Today's Touchstone, in part because the first one contained an error, but mostly because I feel so strongly about the wisdom of focusing on what is noble, beautiful, just, and truly good now.
At this time, at all times, there are situations in the world that can lead us into fear, worry, and even despair.
We may feel powerless, but we are not.
The entire Philippians verse encourages us to refrain from anxiety, to pray with confidence and thanksgiving, and to "fix our thoughts" on what is positive and good.
Prayer and positive thinking may seem trite to some people but let's give them a chance. In fact, let's give them all we've got.
It seems to me that the most fundamental thing needed all over the world now is a change of heart.
Truly, we need love. We need hope. We need to recognize what is good in ourselves and each other.
In our thoughts and conversations, let's find things to praise. Let's cultivate gratitude, joy, beauty, and hope. And let's be kind and loving.
Truly,
Charlene
